Summer Wedding by Sarah Morgan

A family wedding
Catherine Swift is a bestselling romance author, but her personal story hasn’t been quite so successful; three failed marriages have left her relationship with her daughters strained. Engaged once again, Catherine is counting on this wedding, at her villa in Corfu, to finally bring the family together.

A summer of secrets
Adeline can’t believe her mother is getting married for a
fourth time, or that she’s expected to attend. It brings back the pain of her mother’s infidelity and the baby who was the result. Not that she blames her half-sister Cassie, but then she's never tried to know her, either. Cassie, on the other hand, is thrilled by her mother’s news – she’s always admired Catherine’s resilience, and is excited to meet the mystery groom. Cassie also has a secret of her own, and a summer in Corfu will give her the time she needs to process everything.

A chance to start over again
As the guests arrive on the island, and the big day approaches, Catherine begins to reveal secrets from her past, and suddenly both Cassie and Adeline realise that they don’t know their mother at all . . .

* * *

Sarah Morgan is back to take us off on a Summer of troubled family dynamics in the glorious setting of Corfu in her latest release Summer Wedding. We meet mum Catherine who is the bride to be and her daughters Adeline and Cassie with each chapter alternating between each of the women’s points of view which we have come to know and love with all Sarah Morgans novels.

All three women although related, all hold completely different personalities so I am sure each reader will warm to one character more than the others.

Adeline comes across as withdrawn and a little stuck up and standoffish so isn’t instantly likeable but as the novel pulls you in and reveals hidden secrets it is easy to see why her personality is the way it is.

Cassie is an instant ray of sunshine, puts others happiness before her own and wants to see good in everything but she doesn’t have the belief in herself.

Mum Catherine was a hard character to warm to, and even though the secrets she held close were eventually revealed and her reason for certain choices she made come to light I still couldn’t warm to her character and could see why Adeline was the way she was in regards to her mother.

The usual lightness to this authors novels isn’t present in this novel, it covers more grit with hidden secrets, abandonment and abuse all covered but it was a refreshing change from the authors usual style. There is a little romance sprinkled here and there so that the book isn’t too heavy for a holiday read. In some ways the book was predictable but I was curious to find out the reason behind what I expected was going to happen.

This was another enjoyable read by Sarah Morgan although not all sunshine and happiness it was still a page turner with an easy flow to her writing that was a joy to read.
