Together Again by Milly Johnson

 

Sisters Jolene, Marsha and Annis have convened at their beautiful family home, Fox House, following the death of their mother, the tricky Eleanor Vamplew. Born seven years apart, the women are more strangers than sisters.

Jolene, the eldest, is a successful romantic novelist who writes about beautiful relationships even though her own marriage to the handsome and charming Warren is complicated.

Marsha, the neglected middle child, has put all of her energy into her work, hoping money will plug the gap in her life left by the man who broke her young heart.

Annis is the renegade, who left home aged sixteen and never returned, not even for the death of their beloved father Julian. Until now.

So when the sisters discover that their mother has left everything to Annis in her will, it undermines everything they thought they knew. Can saying their final goodbyes to Eleanor bring them together again?

Together Again is Milly Johnsons 20th novel and what an achievement that is. I am a huge fan of this authors books so I would have read it even without reading the synopsis as she never disappoints but when I read synopsis and discovered the book focusing on three estranged sisters it made me want to read it all the more.

As we all typically know the death of a family member usually brings family back together, but we never know if it will be a welcome reunion and as Marsha, Jolene and Annis find themselves back in the same room after so long you could feel the nervous tension between them all but also it was clear that their relationship hadn't just splintered, they didn't really know each other at all.

Each of the sisters have their own battles they are facing in their lives, and they have all been affected by the upbringing and situations in their earlier lives which have had a negative effect on their lives up to this point. It was endearing to watch the women begin to get to know each other and form a sisterly supportive bond and quite sad tr o think of all the years they missed out on together.

There was a turn up for the books later on in the novel which after spotting a few clues I could see coming but it made for an eventful revelation and showed the sisters bond was definitely there to stay through the rough and the smooth.

As I previously mentioned I am a huge fan of Millys books and I have loved each and every one of them and Together Again is no exception, but this book felt different to her previous books to me, there was an added sense of deeper emotion and a more realistic raw storyline that touches on a number of topics that many readers unfortunately will relate too. We still had little splashes of Millys typical humor sprinkled here and there but over all I felt this was a more touching novel and certainly one to remember which is even more fitting with it being a milestone book.
