A summer escape
When Cecilia Lapthorne’s 75th birthday celebrations take an unexpected turn, she seeks solace away from the festivities and escapes to Dune Cottage – without telling her family where she’s going.
A new friendship
Lily Thomas, a struggling artist, has secretly been staying in the unoccupied cottage. When Cecilia discovers Lily during a late-night visit, an unexpected bond forms between the two women.
A chance to start over
Then Cecilia’s grandson, Todd – and Lily’s unrequited crush – shows up, sending a shockwave through their unlikely friendship. Will it inspire Lily to find the courage to live the life she wants? Can Cecilia finally let go of the past to find a new future? Because as surely as the tide erases past footprints, this summer is offering both Cecilia and Lily the chance to swap old dreams for new . . .
We all have a few authors whose books we love and whose writing
we trust so much that we don’t even read the synopsis we go in blind and Sarah
Morgan is one of those authors for me. Her new release The Summer Swap is
perfect holiday reading because it is a fast paced light read that pulls you
straight into the storyline and sweeps you along on a journey of learning that
life is for living your way.
Sarah Morgan is well known for setting her books around three
female leads with each chapter alternating between each of them whilst weaving
their stories together which she also does here and this works perfectly in this
book in particular because it shows three different scenarios and three
different generations all who are at stages in their lives where they look at
what their lives have been up to this point and now how they want their lives
to be going forward.
I took a little while to warm to Kristen but I loved Lily
and Cecilia from the get go and the unlikely friendship that develops between
them was endearing as they found that in helping each other they were actually
helping themselves too without knowing it. There are sweet little helpings of
romance alongside the heartbreak and new friendships to heal loneliness too so
all in all it is an uplifting read.
The story really focuses on living your life for you, doing
the things you love and be who you want to be because when you live a life for
other people you will never feel truly fulfilled and may even hold resentment.
